Oracle Introduces the Latest Release of Oracle Java ME Embedded Oracle Java ME Embedded 8.1 Opens New Opportunities in the Embedded and Internet of Things Market
JAVAONE, SAN FRANCISCO – September 29, 2014
News Summary

As the supply chain becomes more complex, visibility and control between transportation and warehouse management systems has become critical for many businesses. Distribution center yards are often the missing link to achieving the required visibility and control. To connect these two systems and extend supply chain visibility and process automation to the yard, Oracle is introducing Oracle Yard Management, an extension to the Oracle Value Chain Execution suite of applications. This new offering helps organizations provide continuous control of their distribution material flow to improve order fulfillment and logistics operations.

News Facts
Today at JavaOne 2014, Oracle announced the introduction of Oracle Java ME Embedded 8.1, the latest release in its Oracle Java Embedded product portfolio.
The new release is an update to Oracle Java ME Embedded, a complete Java runtime client optimized for ARM microcontrollers and other resource-constrained systems. The platform helps customers decrease time to market, manage costs, and seamlessly deliver new capabilities for embedded devices.
With Oracle Java ME Embedded 8.1, Oracle is expanding the availability of Oracle Java ME Embedded to new platforms and opening new opportunities in the embedded and Internet of Things (IoT) market.
Highlights of Oracle Java ME Embedded 8.1 are new support for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers as well as a range of enhancements such as communication and networking improvements, enhanced security functionality, and developer productivity features such as heap analysis and faster tooling communication
By offering a Java ME Embedded 8.1 developer preview, Oracle is enabling Java developers to experiment with the ARM mbed development platform and complement existing Java support on other ARM architectures and platforms.
Aimed at reducing fragmentation in the microcontroller industry, mbed is a platform for developing smart devices that are based on 32-bit ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers. The addition of Java support provides a highly productive solution for rapid prototyping and product development, with a focus on connected IoT devices.
Oracle and Freescale are also adding support for Java in the Freescale Kinetis K series of microcontrollers based on Cortex-M4 cores, which enables embedded developers to take advantage of popular Java programming features, and a developer preview for the FRDM-K64F development platform using mbed..
Oracle Java ME Embedded 8.1 adds improved support for Qualcomm Gobi 3G/4G connectivity solution for two new device families.
Oracle Java ME Embedded offers the Oracle Java Platform Integrator (OJPI) program, which allows third parties to make available ports of Oracle Java ME Embedded on a number of platforms that complement Oracle’s distributions, increasing the reach of a consistent Java implementation on a wide range of embedded devices.
Oracle Java ME Embedded has experienced significant momentum since the latest version was released earlier this year, with over 70 percent greater adoption rate compared to previous versions of the platform.
Oracle is showcasing these and other Java enhancements throughout JavaOne 2014, running September 29 – October 2, 2014 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 Wyndham.
