ORACLE INDUSTRY CONNECT, BOSTON – March 25, 2014
News Summary

The health sciences community is increasingly focused on the use of evidence-based medicine to improve care outcomes and reduce costs. At the same time, ensuring the safety of emerging treatments and reducing risk remain top priorities for pharmaceutical and biotech organizations. Oracle Health Sciences Empirica Healthcare Analysis enables life science safety organizations, regulatory agencies, healthcare providers and payers to advance these important priorities. Users can efficiently explore multiple sources of electronic medical record and administrative claims data to expand insight into outcomes and adverse events and support advanced pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology and comparative effectiveness initiatives.

News Facts
Oracle Health Sciences today introduced Oracle Health Sciences Empirica Healthcare Analysis, an analytics platform that enables health sciences organizations, regulatory agencies and healthcare payers and providers to develop safety surveillance, advanced risk management strategies and comparative effectiveness initiatives to improve product safety and healthcare outcomes.
This Web-based application, which can be deployed on-premise or hosted, provides access to a repeatable analysis environment to effectively assess and improve the safety and risk/benefit profile of a product.
The solution enables product safety experts to manage risk and understand the value of their products throughout their lifecycle by providing a one-stop, high-performance data analysis environment to inform and support safety surveillance.
Users can access diverse datasets to more effectively research safety signals, such as the comparison of adverse events with a drug to those observed with comparative drugs in the same class or with established therapies for the same condition. They can also examine patient cohorts based on the time-based relationship of data, review prevalence of drug exposures, diagnoses and procedures, and review incidence rates of selected outcomes across various parameters.
The solution also helps to facilitate evidence-based medicine initiatives. Its analytical tools and advanced statistics enable users to explore comparative effectiveness, detect medical errors, such as prescriptions of interacting drugs, and identify disease patterns. In addition, organizations can investigate whether the difference between treatment groups is the result of a specific treatment assignment or an imbalance unrelated to the treatment.
Empirica Healthcare Analysis provides temporal visualization, using sorting and data alignment capabilities to allow users to rapidly browse and process a large amount of clinical data and detect patterns in data over time.
